Among the many religious spots, these are the famous ones:

Kamakhya: Much famous for the temple with the same name, Kamakhya is a key religious spot of Assam. Place of one of the Shakti Shrines and Shakti Peetham associated with the legend of Lord Shiva and Daksha Yagna, Kamakhya is the abode of Shakti--the granter of all desires. The Kamakhya Temple is located atop the scenic Neelanchal Parvat. Much interestingly, the temple has no image of Shakti inside it.

Hermitage of Vasistha: Located amidst beautiful surroundings, the Hermitage of the sage Vasistha is much famous for its three beautiful streams, a dip in which, it is believed, increases longevity. The Hermitage of Vasistha is located atop the Sandhya Hill and has a wonderful Shiva Temple nearby. Besides being a key religious spot of Assam, the place is also a wonderful picnic spot that much attracts the general merry makers.

Navagraha Temple: As the name suggests, the Navagraha Temple is dedicated to nine planets. Believed to be the abode of the God Surya, Navagraha Temple is located atop the Chitrasaala Hill and has nine Shiva Lingas that represent the nine solar planets.

Ugratara Temple: Located on the eastern side of Guwahati, the Ugratara Temple is famous for its Shakti Shrine. Navel Sati is related with the temple which is situated in the Kamrup district of Assam.

Asvakranta Temples: Literally Asvakranta means “ascended by horses”. Located in the north of Guwahati, Asvakranta Temples are much famous for their Vishnu shrines. The scenic Asvakranta is the place where Lord Krishna is believed to have camped before defeating and killing the demon Narakasur.

Umananda Temple: This temple is located on the peacock island of the Brahmaputra River. The temple is built on Bhasmacala Mound. Lord Shiva is believed to have resided at Umananda. The Goddess Urvasi also resided here. Legend suggests that Lord Shiva had burnt Kamdev to ashes here as he had disturbed him while he was in meditation.
