Goals of Life in Hinduism
Goals of Life in HinduismHinduism suggests that every human being has four basic goals in his/her life. Also called Purushartha at times, these goals are a must to be attained as per our ancient scriptures. These goals include Kama, Artha, Dharma and Moksha. The former two goals of life as per Hinduism are the most sought after ones by one and all equally with a percentage of youth being higher. Kama implies the worldly pleasures including both physical and emotional ones. Artha, on the other hand, implies power, fame and wealth which every human being will naturally crave for. It is on a later stage with maturity that one learns to administer these legitimate desires within a lofty and realistic framework of dharma, or ethical concord in all. Then, the most infinite goal of life, Moksha or Liberation, results in the attainment of absolute happiness. Also known as Mukti, Samadhi or Nirvana from this material world, the attainment of this goal of Hinduism truly liberates one from the reincarnation cycle and existential duality.
