Ranchi The City of Watefalls
Ranchi, earlier known as Kushumpur, is the picturesque capital of Jharkhand and a wonderful hill destination. Ranchi is so serene and naturally beautiful that Rabindra Nath Tagore, the famous poet of India, had stayed here for sometime and composed some of his finest works drawing much inspiration from the place’s sylvan surroundings.

Located at a height of 2140 feet above the sea level, Ranchi was the former summer capital of Bihar. Hilly topography, stunningly beautiful waterfalls (Dasham, Hundru, Jonha, Hirni, etc), and dense tropical forests characterize the landscapes of “the City of Waterfalls” which is crisscrossed by the Subarnarekha River and its many tributaries.

Ranchi is also an anthropologist’s delight as it is, perhaps, the best place in India for the study of the tribal ways. An important political, educational, commercial and industrial hub of the eastern India, Ranchi is also one of the three chief industrial hubs of Jharkhand--the other two being Jamshedpur and Bokaro.

Ranchi is also a spiritually blessed place with several well-known religious spots that much inspire the religiously inclined visitors. Rajrappa TempleJagannathpur TemplePahari Mandir…these are just a few of the many famous religious spots of the state.

While the wonderful Rajrappa Temple, located 65 km away from Ranchi, is a famous temple dedicated to the Goddess Kali (here called Chinnamastika); the Jagannathpur Temple is a famous 300-year-old temple which is made on the patterns of the world-renowned Jagannath Temple of Puri, Orissa; and the Pahari Mandir is a renowned temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Ranchi is well connected by rail, road and air. Birsa Munda Airport is the airport of Ranchi that connects the place with the various key cities of India.
