The Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary, the second largest in
Karnataka, is spread across an area of 843 square kilometres in the
Western Ghats, Uttara Kannada District. Rising and falling streams,
whispering bamboo groves, diverse wildlife, and innumerable trekking
trails make it a dream destination.
The Kali River and its tributaries, Kaneri and Nagajhari, meander
through the moist deciduous and semi-evergreen forests. The Dandeli
forest also plays host to the graceful Virnoli Rapids, the magnificent
Supa Dam, the sinister Syntheri Rocks, Nagjhari Viewpoint, the Kulgi
Nature Education Camp, the Kavla Caves with their Shivling-like
stalagmite, and Sykes Point.
Dandeli is also a favourite destination for water sports and offers an
exhilarating white water experience on the highly changeable stretches
of the Kali River. Kempahole is also popular with white water
enthusiasts.
Tucked amidst the lush greenery of the Western Ghats near Sagar is
Honnemaradu, a haven for the adventure tourist. The site offers
activities such as Coracling, Canoeing, Kayaking, and Wind Surfing.
Devbaugh offers high-intensity underwater action with Scuba Diving and
is the ultimate destination for water lovers.
