Shopping in Pondicherry
The scenic and serene union territory of Pondicherry offers a great shopping experience. Low or almost nil taxes on the various items for sale, and the availability of several types of wares, make Pondicherry a shopper's paradise.

Among the many products, the Pondicherry Textile, perhaps, attracts the visitors the most. In fact, Khadi, twill, satin, corduroy, chambray, poplin, oxford, cambric…all these textile products are eagerly sought after objects. The various Anglo-French mills at Pondicherry churn out crinkle-free printed cotton.

Pondicherry also produces great traditional dolls, leather products (made in the old fashioned way with usual attention to detail), pottery, jams and pickles, high quality perfumed candles, and handmade paper.

The various shopping malls and shops--located in certain areas of Pondicherry such as Anna Salai, Nehru Street, Cathedral Street, and Mahatama Gandhi Street--sell an amazing variety of products, at fabulous prices. However, one is advised to look for products at the Aurobindo Ashram Factory and the Sunday Market.

The reason: these shopping spots of the union territory sell an astonishing variety of products, from exotic fruits to handicrafts, and that too at rates which are unbelievable; in fact, far cheaper than what one gets elsewhere in Pondicherry.
